Peter Black

Peter has participated in many ventures from owning and managing a commercial/apartment building to operating a coin Laundromat, a Special Education and Drama teacher,  manager of a ladies & children’s shoe store and a manufacturing & retail children’s clothing store. In addition to his varied careers, he also had outside interests to become a pilot and designer & builder of his own a timber frame home. Peter was involved in the Real Estate Business and a member of the Simcoe and District Real Estate Board, OREA and CREA. He received his Real Estate Salesman’s License in 1975 and began working for the Real Estate Firm of Koster-Caswell and later worked for Ed O’Mahony Real Estate. He received his Real Estate Broker’s License within one year of registering as a salesman. This was unprecedented as the usual time for articling was two years. Furthermore, he was given credit for successfully completing the Legal Office Administration Diploma Program and working for the Legal Firm of W.D.J. Moss of Glencoe. ON. In 1976 he established his own Real Estate Office on Robinson Street in Downtown Simcoe. His brother John came to work for him along with a second sales representative. In 1982 Peter decided to return to University and obtain his BA, & BEd, degrees. In 1991 he successfully ran for municipal office and proudly served the taxpayers of Simcoe and later in 2001, Norfolk County. During this time he maintained his real estate license by completing University courses in Planning and Downtown Revitalization as well as remaining current with real estate legislative requirements by completing the Real Estate up-date courses mandated every two years. When he joined the firm of Gene Bystryk Real Estate Ltd. Brokerage in January 2007 he was pleased to be registered and working with this respected and skilled Team. In August 2011 Peter decided to go back on his own and operate as Peter D. Black Real Estate Brokerage.  He was always prepared to put his strong work ethic and wealth of knowledge to work in the Real Estate Industry. In August 2017 he retired from Real Estate after 42 years.

EDUCATION

Peter is a graduate of Waterloo and Brock Universities with two degrees; Psychology and Education. He has taught in schools throughout the county, including teaching children with learning disabilities. He is a holder of many diplomas and certificates as well as being an ongoing student in law, real estate, municipal administration, planning, and down town revitalization, all of which provide a continuing contribution to his years of municipal service. He was the only Simcoe and County Councillor to acquire the Municipal Clerks and Treasures Designation (AMCTA)

BUSINESS & ADMINISTRATION

Peter has a proven record in business and administration. He is working energetically for the business health of Norfolk. He owned and operated successful downtown businesses until his retirement and serves on the Business Improvement Board of Directors as past Vice Chairman and current Treasurer; a BIA member for 40 years. He is a founding member of the Ontario Business Improvement Area Association.

He was the President of the Boys Athletic Society and President of the Sigma Delta Nu Fraternity, both for two years at a young age. He was one of a few that won the prestigious SCS “Honour S” athletic award. Peter was a lifeguard and swimming Instructor at the Waterford Ponds and Simcoe Kinsmen Pool. He was an OMHA qualified Referee participating at many levels for twelve years. His daily exercise routine consisted of running five miles and on occasion up to fifteen miles. Today his exercise routine has been reduced to walking a mile three times a day with his Golden Retriever and completing fifty push-ups. VOLUNTEERING Peter has volunteered in the arts, working with the Simcoe Little Theatre, Port Dover Lighthouse Festival Theatre, Panorama, Lynnwood Arts Centre, and as a member of the Eva Brook Donly Museum, Lynn Valley and Waterford Heritage Trail Association, the Simcoe Legion, and Trinity Anglican Church Choir. Currently he sings tenor with the Lynn Valley Voices. In his own words: I have served as an outspoken and effective Simcoe & Norfolk Councillor Representative, maintaining an impressive near-perfect attendance record at Council meetings since 1991. Although I had a four year hiatus from Council between 2006 and 2010, I successfully returned once again to the position in 2010. I have been a member of over 50 committees, boards and associations both locally and provincially. I have dedicated myself as a full- time Councillor to all the residents of Norfolk County, while representing my Constituents in Ward Five. My focus today is to provide faithful service to the people of Simcoe and Norfolk County. I hope that my dedication, commitment and hard work given to the taxpayers of Norfolk County will continue into the future. Peter Black is a lifelong resident of Norfolk, with a family history deeply rooted in the county.
